Gynecological surgery doesn’t need to be scary. Understanding common procedures may help you feel confident.

“Surgery” can often evoke fear and stress in us. When we’re told we need a procedure, it’s easy to jump to the worst conclusions and start feeling anxious. We get it! It might help to know that, generally, gynecological surgery has minimal recovery time and rarely requires a more invasive procedure.

At Dr. Lona Sasser Obstetrics and Gynecology, we believe knowledge is power. Knowing more about what to expect helps our clients take control of their health narrative. We believe that offering information about common gynecological surgeries can help our patients understand and prepare for their care. Empowering patients is part of creating an excellent patient experience from the start. Who better to provide your gynecological surgery? Gynecological surgery can be low stress

Many common gynecological surgical procedures can be done right in our office at our Coral Springs location. Others can take place at local hospitals where our physicians have privileges. Most gynecological surgery is minimally invasive, can be done quickly, and does not require in-patient care or lengthy recoveries. Even if a more invasive procedure is needed, it generally won’t have a lengthy recovery time.

Common gynecological surgeries

Some common gynecological surgeries are outlined below. If you want to read more, follow the links we have provided. You are encouraged to call us at (954) 340-1050 with your questions or book an appointment with one of our doctors online.

Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP)

LEEP is a gynecological surgery used as part of the diagnosis and treatment for abnormal or cancerous conditions following an abnormal PAP. An electrical current is passed through a wire loop, which is used to cut away a small amount of tissue. Cells may be removed to allow healthy tissue to grow or may be used for diagnostic testing. Read more here.

Endometrial Biopsy / Ablation

If you are experiencing abnormal menstrual bleeding, bleeding after menopause, or absence of uterine bleeding, we can do gynecological surgery to take a small tissue sample from the lining of the uterus. The endometrial tissue may be examined to look for abnormal cells linked to hormone levels, or abnormal tissues like fibroids or polyps. Read more about the procedure here.

Tubal Ligation and Essure for Family Planning

You may know tubal ligation as “tying the tubes.” In this gynecological surgery of the fallopian tubes, the egg is prevented from traveling to the uterus. Tubal ligation is a permanent method of birth control.

Essure, or tubal sterilization, is another form of permanent birth control. This gynecological procedure can be done without a surgical incision.
